Cyber Defense Students representing NLC as the “NightHax” competed in a national cyber security competition

Cyber Defense Students representing Northeast Lakeview College as the “NightHax” competed again this fall in a national cyber security competition. Students competed individually and then as a team. The NightHax team earned distinction in the (Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) challenge, ranking 21^st of 3,926 teams. The NightHax also placed 44^th in Password Cracking and 94^th in the Forensics challenge. Overall, the NightHax team placed in the Top 4% of competitors in the National Cyber League besting numerous university and graduate school teams from across the US.

The National Cyber League competition is a “capture the flag” or “hack-a-thon” style event for U.S. collegiate (2yr, 4yr, and graduate) level schools. The competition includes challenges from Open-Source Intelligence, Cryptography, Password Cracking, Forensics, and 5 other categories. Students are given cyber security challenges ranging from easy to hard and have 56 hours over a single weekend to solve as many challenges as possible.

About NLC’s Cyber Defense Program

The Cyber Defense program at Northeast Lakeview College began in 2019 and since then has been awarded several recognitions.  Most recently being recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a program of Academic Excellence.  NLC's Cyber Defense program equips students with industry-relevant Cyber Security Training in Cisco, Windows, and Linux inside of a dedicated network environment.
